WHY IS THERE A NEED FOR HILLEL IN ISRAEL?

Sustaining Israel as a vibrant Jewish state depends on the connection its young people feel to their Jewish roots. While young Israelis speak Hebrew and follow the cycle of the Jewish calendar, many find Judaism outdated and irrelevant to their lives. Some feel uncomfortable with organized religion, and even perceive Judaism as inaccessible, or even dogmatic.

Studying at the university is a time when students are confronted with ideas and choices that will shape their identity and define their future endeavors. The university experience is one of the last times that Israeli students will have the opportunity and the freedom to explore the Jewish attitudes and ideals that will guide them in later life before they begin their careers and have their own families.

Hillel seeks to inspire students, at this crucial time, to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life and to take ownership of their Judaism. Through Hillel's welcoming, innovative, pluralistic, student-centered approach, students are encouraged to think about and define their Jewish identity.

Hillel engages and empowers students with the knowledge and language of Jewish values and traditions, fosters a welcoming, open environment in which their sense of Jewish identity can evolve, and helps to build a more equitable, compassionate, and responsible society, by investing in and training the leaders of Israel's future.

After graduating from campus Hillel, our graduates are invited to join the Hillel Communities. For information and updates please go here.
